Walk-in court sessions are available Monday through Friday from 9 to 10 a.m., and Monday through Thursday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. These sessions let you address your case without waiting for a scheduled hearing date -- particularly useful for simple violations where you want to plead guilty, request a continuance, or ask about your options.

Paying a Springfield Traffic Ticket

Springfield offers multiple ways to pay your traffic ticket. Online payment goes through Missouri State Pay by Web -- the same system used statewide. Phone payments are accepted at 417-895-9586, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can also pay in person at the courthouse during business hours.

The city's pay ticket portal is at springfieldmo.gov/2263/Pay-Your-Ticket. Paying your ticket means pleading guilty -- the violation goes on your driving record and points may be assessed. If you want to contest the ticket, do not pay. Show up to court on your scheduled date, or use the walk-in sessions to discuss your options with court staff first.

One important deadline: if you do not pay within 30 days of your fine being assessed, Springfield adds a Time Payment Fund fee of $25. After that, the court can also add a 14.9 percent collection fee on overdue amounts. Pay on time to avoid those extra charges stacking up.

The online payment portal accepts most major payment methods and is available any time of day -- no need to visit the courthouse to pay a non-contested fine.

Track Your Springfield Case Status

Springfield Municipal Court has a case tracking tool at springfieldmo.gov/5460/Track-This-Case. Use it to see your current case status, scheduled court dates, and whether a fine has been assessed. This is the city's own system and works for municipal ordinance violations filed in Springfield.

For state-level traffic charges filed in the 31st Judicial Circuit (Greene County), use Missouri CaseNet instead. The two systems are separate. The city's tracker covers city cases. CaseNet covers circuit court cases. If you are not sure which system your case is in, check your citation -- it will indicate whether the charge is a city ordinance violation or a Missouri Revised Statute violation.

Greene County Circuit Court -- 31st Judicial Circuit

State traffic charges filed in Springfield go through the Greene County Circuit Court, part of the 31st Judicial Circuit. The Circuit Court Traffic Bureau can be reached at 417-868-4074 (press option 5). These are charges filed under Missouri Revised Statutes -- things like state speeding laws, DWI, reckless driving, or driving with a suspended license.

Court-Ordered Programs in Springfield

Some Springfield Municipal Court sentences require completing a program rather than just paying a fine. The court commonly orders SATOP (Substance Abuse Traffic Offender Program) for alcohol-related traffic offenses. The STOP program and defensive driving courses are also used. Community service is another option in some cases. If ordered, you must complete the program and provide proof of completion to the court by the deadline on your sentence.

The court also handles MADD Victim Impact Panel attendance for some DUI cases. That panel carries a $40 fee separate from any court fines. Failure to complete any court-ordered program can result in additional penalties or a bench warrant. Contact the court at 417-864-1890 to confirm program requirements and deadlines for your specific case.

Points and License Effects

Missouri adds points to your driving record when you are convicted of a traffic violation. Springfield convictions -- whether in municipal court or 31st Circuit -- count toward your statewide point total. Key thresholds:

  • 4 points in 12 months -- advisory letter from the DOR
  • 8 or more points in 18 months -- license suspension
  • 12 or more points in 12 months -- 1-year revocation

To check your driving record, go to dor.mo.gov/driver-license/resources/records.html and pay $2.82. The DOR phone is (573) 526-2407. The DOR points FAQ at dor.mo.gov/faq/driver-license/tickets-points.html gives the full breakdown of how points translate to suspension or revocation.

Failure to Appear and Reinstatement

If you miss a court date or skip paying a fine in Springfield, the court can issue a bench warrant. The Missouri DOR can then suspend your driver's license through the Non-Resident Violator Compact process. A $20 reinstatement fee applies once you resolve the underlying case. More details at dor.mo.gov/faq/driver-license/fact-nrvc.html.

Contact Springfield Municipal Court at 417-864-1890 or the 31st Circuit Traffic Bureau at 417-868-4074 (option 5) to find out what you need to do to clear an outstanding case. Do not drive on a suspended license -- Missouri treats it as a separate criminal offense.

Public Records and Sunshine Law

Traffic court records in Springfield are public records under Missouri's Sunshine Law, Chapter 610 of the Missouri Revised Statutes. You can view records at the Municipal Court or at the Greene County Circuit Clerk's office. In-person access is free. Copies cost $0.25 per page.

The Missouri statutes site at revisor.mo.gov has the full text of Chapter 610 (Sunshine Law), Chapter 304 (traffic regulations), Chapter 302 (driver license law), and Chapter 479 (municipal courts). Self-represented parties can get help at selfrepresent.mo.gov.

State Fine Collection Center

For non-contested traffic fines assessed in the 31st Judicial Circuit, payment goes to the Missouri Fine Collection Center. You can pay online at courts.mo.gov/page.jsp?id=136013, call (573) 522-8504, or mail a check or money order to Fine Collection Center, P.O. Box 236, Jefferson City, MO 65102. This is for circuit court fines only -- city ordinance fines are paid through Springfield's own payment system.
