Municipal Courts in Lawrence County

Several cities in Lawrence County operate their own municipal courts for traffic violations that occur within city limits. When an officer issues a ticket inside one of these cities, the municipal court -- not the Circuit Court in Mt. Vernon -- typically handles the case. Your citation will show which court has jurisdiction.

Municipal courts in Lawrence County include:

  • Aurora Municipal Court -- 2 W. Pleasant, Aurora; (417) 678-5121 ext. 350
  • Mt. Vernon Municipal Court -- 319 E. Dallas, Mt. Vernon; (417) 466-2122
  • Monett Municipal Court -- 1901 E. Cleveland, Monett; (417) 235-4677
  • Also: Freistatt, Marionville, Miller, Pierce City, Stotts City, and Verona all have municipal courts

Each municipal court sets its own hours and payment procedures. If you received a ticket in one of these cities, contact the listed phone number to confirm the court date, payment options, and how to submit your appearance or payment. Do not assume that paying at the Circuit Clerk office in Mt. Vernon satisfies a municipal court fine -- they are separate systems.

When an officer gives you a ticket in Lawrence County, the court date is typically provided on the citation itself. Before you appear, check that the ticket has actually been filed with the appropriate court. Your citation may say to contact the court to verify. Missouri Driver Points and Lawrence County Convictions

Missouri's point system tracks every traffic conviction, including those from the 39th Judicial Circuit in Lawrence County. The Department of Revenue assigns points based on the offense. Points pile up and can cost you your license.

The thresholds work like this: 4 points in 12 months triggers an advisory letter. Eight or more points in 18 months leads to a suspension of 30, 60, or 90 days depending on prior history. Twelve or more points in 12 months means a one-year revocation. A basic speeding ticket adds 2 or 3 points. A DWI adds 8 at once.

To see your current record, order a driving history from the DOR at dor.mo.gov/driver-license/resources/records.html for $2.82. The full explanation of how points work is at dor.mo.gov/faq/driver-license/tickets-points.html. Knowing your current point total can change how you decide to handle a Lawrence County ticket.

For non-contested cases, payment can go through the Missouri Fine Collection Center at (573) 522-8504 or by mail to Fine Collection Center, P.O. Box 236, Jefferson City, MO 65102. Online payment through the courts portal may also be available for your case. Failure to Appear in Lawrence County

Missing a court date or failing to pay a fine in Lawrence County can lead to a license suspension through the Non-Resident Violator Compact process. The court reports the failure to the DOR. Your license stays suspended until you resolve the underlying case and pay the $20 reinstatement fee.

Contact the Lawrence County Circuit Court Clerk at (417) 466-2471 or reach Teresa Robertson at ext. 115 to find out what steps are needed. Once the court matter is resolved, pay the reinstatement fee at mydmv.mo.gov. Details on the NRVC process are at dor.mo.gov/faq/driver-license/fact-nrvc.html. Do not drive while your license is suspended -- it is a separate criminal offense and will complicate your situation further.
